Artist Profile

I started working with fabric about 10 years ago, teaching myself how to quilt. Through quilting magazines, I discovered art quilts and eventually taught myself how to create landscape artwork using fabric.

I originally sold wall hangings and simple art quilts at an Art in the Park venue. Over the years I continue to sell at local craft and vendor shows. As my work improves, I have started selling in galleries.

My artwork has been described as very realistic, or literal, by those who recognize the elements of Georgian Bay in a lot of pieces. I enjoy the simplicity of nature and am intrigued by the variety of colours in the rocks around Georgian Bay and the way the trees have been shaped over the years by the constant winds. With encouragement from those who have either purchased or viewed my art I am constantly evolving and learning new ways to duplicate what mother nature has so easily created.

My artwork is still fairly unique. When people view it for the first time, they are surprised by how dimensional it is when they get close enough and realize that it is not a painting. The fact that it is sewn and then stretched over a canvas gives it a different look than a lot of the work done by other fabric artists.
